Boonta Eve - In the Making (Page 1)

Announcers Booth

I started by building interior componants. This dio is being done in a "Stacked" design to save on space, so I built the announcers booth first which will be mounted to the back about center towards the top. The top& bottom of the Announcers box were cut with a bandsaw from a lumberyard pine 2x10. The bottom actually has a twin. I had started to make a couple of Cantina Bars while waiting on the CFC to arrive. After I built the CFC display I completed one of the bars and built a whole Cantina around It ( I'll get to that one later) the other Bar base, I chopped off and is the bottom of the announcers box.

I figured I'd need the depth of the bottom of the carcass about 18". So I ripped a 8' piece of Luan and layed out the main interior components and figures to figure out the width. I always try to be as generous as I can. Better to have extra space to fill in than come up short and have everything look cramped. I figured 60" (5 foot) should do it.

Now we need to reinforce the bottom. Then I mark off a line for the back which mounts on top the bottom. I decided to make an elevated boardwalk with a wall in front. A place for the Podracers to watch after they have bit the dust. I mark off a line for that to make sure I have plenty of room for the Podracers.

The half circle to the left front is the beginnings of an elevated observation deck. Since the observation deck needed to be towards the front to look right. That left an open area behind it, so I thought I'd put in a staircase from the Boardwalk to the bottom. And I layed out the dimensions.

The steps are made by routing a rabet edge in 1x's and stacking them. The top step will be wider to accomodate a curved railing. All the parts are cut using a bandsaw, then glued and brad nailed together.
