Part 1

I start by cutting an inch and a eighth wide 1x board down from 3/4 to a 1/2 inch thick. Both parts will be used.

A 1/8" wide by a 1/4" deep Dado is Routed down the middle of the 1/2" board on the Router Table.
45 degree angles are then Routed on both sides of the Dado for version 1.
Version 2 has an angle on one side only.
The Dado is then hand sanded but the rest is done with a good ol' Palm Sander.
Next the legs are made from 1"x 3/4" stock with the corners rounded over using a beading bit.
Then using a stop block the legs are cut to length on the Compound Miter Saw.

Here's where the 1/8" strip cut off the top comes in. It is cut into 1/2" pieces and glued to both ends of the base of the screens.
The ends are then sanded flush on the Stationary Disc Sander.
To keep all the surfaces flat what I like to do for the final sanding on small pieces is to use a 150 grit scuff pad layed flat on the workbench and move the piece over it. To me it gives you more control especially if you have had to add any wood putty.

The presanded legs are glued on and the base is ready for primer and paint.
